Tarpon World Fly Fishing & Weather Report
May, 11 through 18, 2018

Greetings from the fabulous, rainy Florida Keys:

May 11 through 18 was cancled due to unstable weather here in Tarpon World, a large low pressure kept the rain, lightning, and thunder, coming off and on, but the fish didn't like it and I hated missing the charters.
May 15, we got a break in the weather for about 3 1/2 hours between 1:30 am and 5:am, so I called my buddy Rex Mauer in Key Weird and he met me at the amp. We jumped 3 Tarpon and caught two big fish on fly while , as always, using IGFA 20 pound class tippet on my TFO fly rods. I love my Job, and hope the weather improves as I have 8 nights left during my 2018 Tarpon Season.

April 23, 2018: Paul McGarvie and Kevin Winkle fished aboard "Fly Reel" tonight between 8:00 pm and midnight, with east wind at 10 to 15 knots. Paul and Kevin jumped a dozen tarpon and caught a total of 3, each angler caught a big fish. I love my Job!

April 24, 2018: Paul McGarvie and Kevin Winkle fished again tonight between 9:00 pm and 1:00 am in Tarpon world aboard Fly Reel. Tarpon World was different with the wind swung 180 degrees to due west at 5 to 15 knots and the fishing slowed drastickly. We got two bites and caught one large Tarpon.

April 25, 2018: My good friend/client Eddie Matuizek from PA, and his friend Chris Korich, (casting coach and former world record holding distance and accuracy caster) from San Francisco CA joined me and Josh Hayes for their first of three nights of fly fishing for Tarpon, in Tarpon World. The wind was light and variable which is usually poor for this fishery, however with these two good casters we were able to put the fly where the fish were located, the result produced ten Tarpon jumped with three nice tarpon caught and released. Eddie caught a big female of about 125 pounds which took 25 minutes and took us a mile out into the ocean. Great Night !

April 26, 2018: Same conditions as last night for Ed Matuizek and Chris Korich, fishing was good as we jumped 11 Tarpon and caught 3, all while using 20 pound IGFA class tippet and complying with the rules of fly fishing as written in the IGFA world Record Book. I love my Job, wish you were here.

April 27, 2018: Tonight it rained hard in "Tarpon World" Ed and Chris wanted to go so Josh Hayes and I loaded up "Fly Reel" and headed out at 11:30 pm. The rain picked up and we were all soaking wet, Eddie and Chris Jumped 7 tarpon and Chris, who never saw a tarpon before this trip, caught and released a 120  pound female tarpon during a monsoon. We quit after 2 hours as the rain was blowing sideways and the lightning started. I love my job, thanks to my mate Josh Hayes and all of my awesome clients. More Reports to follow.

Tarpon Fly Fishing Report
April 17, 2018

Greetings from Tarpon World:

This morning between 2 am and 6 am, I fished in "Tarpon World" with Steve and his son Kyle Maurer. We had nice cool weather with 5 to 15 knot East wind, 77 degree water temperature, 70 degree air temperature, and a beautiful star filled sky. Steve and Kyle are from Iowa, Kyle had never caught a fish on fly so this trip was for him, and sure enough he cast to, hooked, landed our first Tarpon of the night, a fat 5 1/2 foot 75 pound male, what an awesome experience as we released that fish after a 20 minute battle. after several more bites Steve hooked a fat male fish which took 15 minutes to land. We had several more bites, and then Steve hooked a big monster female tarpon which peeled off several hundred yards of drag, jumped several times then spit the hook. Jumped 3 and caught 2 nice big Tarpon on fly. Thanks to my mate Josh Hayes for helping me as I recover and get stronger, I really Love my Job, more reports to follow.

Jake

Tarpon Fly Fishing Report
April 9 through 17

Greetings from The Fabulous Florida Keys:

Well after two weeks here in "Tarpon World" I am really beginning to feel that my body is healing quickly and I am now feeling much stronger. My clients, Todd Gregory, Ron Boyd, Bill Johnson, Adam Nemak, Wanda Hair Taylor and I have fly fished for 7 out of the last 13 nights, with my mate Josh Hayes helping me to get used to being back to work aboard my vessel "Fly Reel".  So far we have jumped twenty five, and released seven Tarpon on fly in below average conditions. It is beginning to get really good now after that major storm went through 2 nights ago, wind is now back to the east and the fishing should be really good tonight.

If you have the desire to catch some of these wonderful Tarpon on Fly, I still have some prime Tarpon fly fishing dates available aboard the "Fly Reel", those dates are April 28, May 1, 2, 8, 23, 24. Plus we have a few more dates available on Josh's Boat, those dates are : April: 21, 22, 24 through 30, May 1, 2, 12, 13, 16, 17. Pleas contact me soon as it is looking like an awesome season coming up. (305) 872-6060.

Fly Fishing Report from Tarpon World
April 7 & 8 2018

Greetings from Tarpon World:

Today will be my third night of fly fishing for Tarpon here in the fabulous Florida Keys during the 2018  season. I arrived here on April 5, moved into my local home in Marathon, got my vessel "Fly Reel" ready and ten my friend/mate Josh showed to help me get started.

On Saturday April, 7 and Sunday, April 8, we fished with Todd Gregory (owner of Towee boats, in Tennessee), we had calm seas with no wind and clear skies with 81 degree water temperature both nights. Calm wind makes it difficult to get onto the holding tarpon but we had some success, fortunately Todd is a good caster and he hung in there blind casting for both nights. Todd had 8 or 9 bites, several did not come tight, however with that said we jumped six Tarpon and managed to catch our first fish of the season on the first night. Todd hooked and fought a big fish on the second night but after several awesome jumps that fish fell on the leader and broke off. It was a pleasure spending this time sharing my awesome fishery with Todd and Josh.

Tonight Josh and I will be fishing with my old fishing friend Ron Boyd from Texas, looks like  we will have some easterly wind tonight, if so fishing will be very good. Stay tuned for more fishing reports tomorrow, I really love my Job:))  I do still have a few prime dates available during May, and Josh has the following dates available on the second boat, if you have any interest in catching some Tarpon on fly please give me a call.

Josh Hayes open nights
April: 21, 22, 24-25-26-27-29-30
May: 1-2-12-13-16-17

Warren also has prime dates available during May.

Regards
Jake
