January 12 was the final day of fishing in the “Jake Jordan Invitational Sailfish Fly Challenge” at the fabulous Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala. Our three days of fishing was relatively slow by Guatemalan standards, we had 7 boats (2 anglers per boats) entered in this event. After three full days of fly fishing for sailfish our seven teams caught and released a total of 46 sailfish along with a Blue Marlin of 300 pounds, on fly.

Team “Intensity”, with Captain Mike Sheeder, along with anglers Lucien Lafond from Normandy France, and Tony Weaver from Anchorage Alaska, won the tournament championship with a total of 1,300 points. Lucien Lafond also won a Mako 9600 fly reel along with a Jake Jordan edition TFO Blue Water HD Marlin Fly Rod as Top point angler in the Tournament.

Team “Makaira”, won the second place team award with Captain Jason Brice along with anglers Jack Callion from Marathon Florida, and Paul McGarvie from PA with 1000 points. Paul McGarvie also received a Mako 9550 fly reel and a TFO Blue Water HD fly rod as the second place top point angler.

Third place team went to the vessel "Release" with Captain Chico Alvarenda, along with anglers Nat Harris from North Carolina, and his team partner Nassim Joaguin from Mexico with 950 points. Nat Harris also caught a 250 pound Blue Marlin during the practice day, this was Nat’s 19th Blue Marlin on fly.

First, Second, and Third Place, Captains recieved Sailfish Mount trophies from King Sailfish Mounts, while each of the two mates aboard the top three teams recieved sun glasses from Habervision.

I would like to thank all of the anglers, captains, and mates, without which we could not have this fun event. Our Sponsors are, Jim Turner (Casa Vieja Lodge), Rick Pope (TFO fly rods), Judy Charlton (Mako Reels), (Rio Products), Cam Sigler (Cam Sigler Flies), (Gamakatsu Hooks), Steve Haber (Habervision Sun Glasses), Chuck Furimsky (The Fly Fishing Show), and (King Sailfish Mounts). Please support these fine companies, their products are the best available.

The fourth annual “Jake Jordan Invitational Sailfish Fly Challenge” will be held at “Casa Vieja Lodge” on January 8, 9, 10, 2013, with the optional practice day available on January 7, 2013.
