"Jake Jordan, Invitational, Sailfish Fly Challenge"
Second Day Results Report
January 8, 2014
Greetings from Casa Vieja Lodge, Guatemala:
Yesterday, January 8, 2014 was the second day of the, fifth annual "Jake Jordan Invitational, Sailfish Fly Challenge" fly fishing Tournament. This year we have five two angler teams, entered in this three day event, which is held here at The Casa Vieja Lodge, in Guatemala on January 7, 8, and 9, of 2014. The results for the five teams after two days are as follows:
First Place, Team Intensity: Captain Mike Sheeder, Anglers: Tony Weaver with, (One Striped Marlin and 3 Sailfish), and Joe Seelig, (One Striped Marlin and 3 Sailfish). Total team points 1800!
Second Place, Team Rum Line: Captain Chris Sheeder, Anglers: Don Butler (four sailfish) and Danny Cline, (six sailfish). Total team points 1450!
Third Place,Team Spindrift: Captain Nicho Alvarenga, Anglers: Mark Schifrin ( 4 Sailfish), and Aaron Schifrin, (2 Sailfish). Total team points 700!
Team Release: Captain Chico Alvarenga, Anglers: Mathew Proehl (2 Sailfish) and George Maybee, (One Sailfish). Total team points 400!
Team Makaira: Captain Jason Brice, Anglers: Paul McGarvie (no fish), and Nat Harris, (2 Sailfish). Total team points 300!
Thanks to Captain Sarah Gardner, and Captain Brian Horsley, for these great photographs used in my report. Fishing for this second day of my tournament was mixed with the top scoring boat today catching ten Sailfish on fly inside of a 2 hour span.
The Sailfish were not real aggressive and bites were lethargic, for the second day in a row, "Release" hooked a Marlin ( Striped on day one, and Blue today), They fought both and pulled the hooks close to the boat. Our catch ratio has not as good, so far, as in previous years.
On Day Two we Raised a total of 43 Sailfish and 1 Blue Marlin, the five teams got bites from 26 Sailfish and 1 Blue Marlin, the five teams combined caught and released 14 sailfish and no marlin today. Remember that all of these fish are caught according to IGFA Rules while using 20 pound or lighter class tippet. Stay tuned for more Fly Fishing and Tournament Reports from here at the world class "Casa Vieja Lodge" in Guatemala. I love my job, wish you were here!
